三甲基氧鎓四氟硼酸盐 (Me3OBF4)或是三乙基氧鎓四氟硼酸盐 (Et3OBF4)被称为Meerwein试剂。这是一个十分hard的试剂，所以即使是醇或者胺也能被它甲基化(或乙基化)。

烷基化反应性强弱按照以下顺序排列。

Me2Cl(SbF6) > (MeO)2CHBF4> Me3OBF4> Et3OBF4> MeOTf >MeSO2F > (MeO)2SO2> MeI
